What does an MIPS 4K compares to?

Hey there,

I'm wondering what does an MIPS 4K processor/microcontroller compares to? It has an MMU and cache inside, would it be as fast as a 486 processor?

Probably between the 486 and pentium in speed but closer to the 486. AFAIK it has no FPU. Popular for embedded systems, particularly those running Linux.

    Wow. I have a PIC32 on my hand - would that qualify as a having a mini-486?

I do saw the block diagram of the 486 and it is pretty complex, especially when they have some other MMU inside.

On the other side, the PIC32 has a very small cache so I believe it is not as fast as the fastest 486 available. :)

If you look at the CoreMark benchmark, the Pentium running at 100Mhz has a score of 213 while the PIC32 has a score of 235. Not too shabby for a small micro.

The PIC32 competes with the ARM Cortex-M3. It's better in some ways.
