Wireless USB device to pc/mac

The thread on wireless Propeller programming gave me a thought. I have been looking at wireless USB options to see if there were something like a dongle that could hang off of a Nikon(mini USB port) and connect to a pc/Mac USB port, and work in a tethered mode just like a USB cable. I can't find any good options for this, Gefen makes a solution but it requires a large powered box at each end. Is this method with the Wixels something that may be able to accomplish the task of a dongle at the cam, a receiver at the computer, and operate just like a straight wire? There are a lot of wireless USB>wifi options that include routers and such, that is not the right idea.
