Proxy Software

Hi,

Although this might be a bit off topic, I was wondering if anyone knows of good proxy software? So, software that I can use to share my internet between all the computers I have at home. Preferably for free. I've used a few which are nice, but they don't seem to have a "bandwidth" limiting - so they limit the speed, but they don't limit the amount of download and upload. Does anyone know of any software that can actually limit it?

Thanks,

-John

    Normally one shares a single connection to an ISP by using a hub or switch such as dlink. Plug the switch to the cable modem or whaterver you have. Plug the computers into the switch. Very simple and cheap. No software required. Certainly not any kind of proxy.

    Why do you want to limit upload/download data but not speed?

    Okay I found one this time. I looked through random forums and stuff and came across net limiter, a bandwidth shaper.
    Here is the link
    I looked at the website and they do have a free version, along with a "PRO" version and "lite" version you can pay for.

    @Both-of-you

    Thanks for the replies! I found one myself that I like quite a bit:

    1) It's free!
    2) You can set daily limits and monthy data limits
    3) It's got a pretty nice interface
    4) I like the user/group options
    5) It's not too hard to use

    You can find it here: http://www.easyproxy.com/

    @Heater: Using a router to route the internet is fine when you have the option of ADSL, and DSL. But unfortunatly out in Australia in our lil' town there isn't that avaliability, so I have to go with 3G. This explains both the problems:

    1) I can't use a router as a 3G stick doesn't plugin into a router
    2) I want to limit my data usage as I don't get very much, and I need to make it last as it's quite expensive

    @SONIC:

    Thanks for the link, It looks interesting, I've bookmarked it ;) Not sure if I need it at the moment, but it looks like good software, will keep in mind for the future.

    Thanks again,

    John

    Actually, you CAN get 3G routers.

    The ZyXEL NBG-4115 Wireless-N 3G Router, ASUS WL-330N3G 6-in-1 Wireless-N Mobile Router, Jensen, D-link, and probably just about everyone else also makes them.
    Most of them also comes with a 4/6/8/wahtever-port network Switch built-in, too.

    @Gadgetmaan: Yeah, I saw some of them the other day - but they aren't really an option as I don't have a lot of spare cash floating around - thats where free proxies come in :)
