Help with Parallax L3G4200D gyroscope with Arduino

Hi,
I am working in a group to have a 4 wheel drive robot move around a room on its own. Is there a way to use the L3G4200D gyroscope to determine the direction the robot is facing? Or a way to determine the angle the robot has turned? For example, when the robot turns right, the gyro will determine when the robot has turned 90 degrees.

A gyroscope measures the rate of change; pitch, roll, and yaw. A typical use of a gyro is to provide feedback to keep a robot stable. A compass and wheel encoders would be better for determining direction and localization.
