Stampworks Experiment Kit - simple 1 LED with 1 resistor circuit trouble

Hello,

I recently purchased a Stampworks Experiment Kit as i am fairly familiar with programming however have no clue with electronics which i am keen to learn.

I was reading through the first part of 'what is a mircrocontroller'. When i attempt the simple circuit of negative end of LED into vss then positive into the board, then resistor into vdd and then plugged into the same line as the LED the LED doesnt light up.

Does anyone have any tips? much appreciated

Kind Regards

The LED could be the wrong way round.

Is there power to the board?

    Hi All,

Yes, im quite certain theres power to the board, iv done about 6 tutorials from the accompanying book. Also i have tried the LED both ways. Could it be the wrong resistor?

You should get some light from the LED, even with the wrong value resistor. It should be about 470R. Check the voltage across it.

If the resistor is too high of value then the LED will not illuminate, so it could be the wrong resistor.

470 Ohms is a yellow / violet / brown (gold) resistor. Yellow / violet / red (4.7K) is too high.

    Do learn the color code.
