Hi,
First Post to this forum. I bought my Basic Stamp 2 twelve years ago after reading about it in Nuts & Volts magazine. Well, life got in the way so I never delved in to experimenting with it. I now have finally opened the anti-static bag. What I was sent was an OEM version. It seems to be a very bare-bones module, with pins running down one side and no convenient 9-volt battery clips. Also, I want to use it with my current computer, so I will have to toss out the DB9 cable ant get a USB adapter. I am an obvious newbie to this technology, so would appreciate any hand-holding.
Thanks for reading

Check this out for a little more detail on the schematic for your BS2. It looks like this board already has a 5 volt voltage reg LM2940 installed:

Second, a great place to get started is Parallax's What's a Microcontroller? See the following free download:

You have posted this in the General Forum, but there exists a separate forum here just for Basic Stamp. You might want to post your future questions there:

I hope that helps get you started.
One nice thing about that BASIC Stamp is that there is a ton of information on these Forums about them and it is still a supported product. How many other projects are so well supported after all these years?
Don't toss that Serial cable just yet. Most of the USB to serial adapters have a DB-9 connector for the serial port. Some that I have are very short cables so you may end up using your cable as just an extension cable.
You shouldn't have any trouble getting started and the Stamps are easy to use.
