As you may or may not know. The Space Shuttle Discovery takes its last ride on the back of the 747 to the Washington DC Metro area (my area) to land at Dulles International Airport in Chantilly, Va and to be displayed in the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center in Chantilly, Va (next to Dulles).

Also for those of you that happen to be in the Washington DC Metro area you can see the Space Shuttle Discovery ridding on the back of the 747 as it's being transported for the last time, fly over Mall in Washington DC on its way to Dulles International Airport.

Here's the link to the Welcome Space Shuttle Discovery webpage so you guys can follow what is going on with Discovery.

    Thanks for sharing!

Having literally grown up with the "space age", it's a sad ending to an illustrious endeavor. At least there's the ISS. I hope Mars still happens on my watch!

End of a era. Never thought I'd see the day NASA basically closing up it's manned space efforts.

Remember taking for granted the sight of that particular 747 in the sky and watching the shuttle getting mated to the 747 over the years. It's trademark double sonic boom was always neat.

I was priveliged to see an evening launch of a shuttle whilst on holiday and was amazed at it's power and really wish i'd seen one of the Saturn 5's take off in comparison with the shuttle those launches must have been absolutely amazing!

For those wondering what time the shuttle will be flying over the DC area. It should be flying over between 10 and 11am and will be shown on the web, but I'm going to try to see it in person. Since I haven't it in person.
