power supply filtering for 433mhz reciever

I'm using the MSR1 robot board with the propellor, and I'm having troubling when powering my 433mhz reciever (from Solarbotics http://www.solarbotics.com/product/30300/ ) from the MSR1 board,. The range on the reciever is significantly reduced, I've tried all kinds of filter caps, diodes and extra regulators, nothing works. I have the exact same poblem when using an RC reciever from a cheap RC car. I can only assume there is a noise produced from the propellor board that is causing the problem, sicne the modules work great when powered from an external source.

Any ideas ?

The receiver is pretty simple and the MSR1 is noisy, like any other board with a fast microcontroller, switching power supply, and high power motor speed control. Particularly if you've already tried filtering the supply voltage close to the receiver, there's probably quite a bit of radiated noise that the receiver is picking up. You might try shielding the MSR1. Temporarily you could try a cover made from cardboard and aluminum foil that's grounded and mount the receiver an inch or two above the cover. If that helps significantly, you can make a nicer cover using aluminum sheet metal or PCB material.

Thanks Mike, I'll try your suggestion and see what happens.

    Cheers.
