Servo types
Good morning. Does anyone know the name (type) of the servo used in bipeds? This servo seems to have an output shaft on both sides of the servo to mount brackets. I have searched all morning to no end. If they come from Hobby King or Cheapo servo.com the better. I have an intuition the may be in the 200-300 dollar range. Thanks for any replies.

Dynamixel is one manufature of "robot actuators".
Here's one place that sells them.

The don't use the normal pulse length many hobby servos use to command location. They use serial communication. They are very cool but kind of expensive.
I've only used Dynamixel's AX-12 servos myself.
I don't think Hobby King sells any of the servos you're looking for.
Depends on the type and size of biped.
The Parallax Penquin used two $12.00 servos
and the Parallax Toddler used two $13.00 servos

I think there's a robot called RoboNova that also use "robot servos". Some of these servos have a shaft that go all the way through the servo while others just provide a pivot point opposite the horn. Dynamixels use a pivot point.
I added my own pivot point with my popsicle stick hexapod by attaching Lego turntables to the bottom of the servos.
Duane,
I edited my original post to ask for an example of what he was trying to build, but the edit did not get posted for some reason.

No problem here.
I'm guessing Mike is looking for something like a RoboNova but doesn't know that they're called.
I found a link to a RoboNova I.
Dynamixel also makes a humanoid kit.
I think I might have all the parts to build a humanoid with AX-12+ servos but I'd have to take the servos out of other projects to do so.
