6-9V IN PropRpm power supply question.Th

OK, I know this is really bad. The more and more I think about it, the more ashamed I am. It turns out I've been running the voltage in to the board @5v. This gives the regulator about 4.4v to work with, after the reverse polarity diode *I knew I should have removed that.* So my question is this. I've been having trouble communicating with the propeller chip RELIABLY with the 2323 and a usb-serial converter. This issue existed even before the usb - serial. I have been running my propRPM like this for quite some time and just purchased a propPlug since I hoped this would help. Then chatting on about the expo, it hit me. Power supply. I've been getting random resets, Prop tool com problems, and other issues. Could some of this be attributed to bad supply practices? I have yet to actually test the voltages, but just thinking about makes my propeller hurt. How bad is this for the v-reg, as well as the prop?

I do not know how much of a headroom the regulator on that board would require, but I usually have the 3.3 V reg chained off of the 5 Volt one or restrict the input vlots to about 5 if there isn't a reg for that.

It might come down to how good is the 5 Volts that you are using, I either use a homemade bench PSU or switch mode bricks, and so I trust these sources to be good clean and wholesome. The transformer "wall-warts" are landfill, IMHO.
