starting club in Twin Cities

Is there anyone in Minneapolis, MN and surrounding area that would be interested in forming an informal club? It's purpose would be to bring people interested in parallax chips and projects together at a common location. I am currently gauging interest in the local parallax community.

I would be interested. I live in New Richmond, WI, about 12 miles east of Stillwater, MN. Depending on location, times, etc. I might be able to get together once in awhile. I'm a total rookie in this, just got the bug about 8 months ago.

This is great to see there is interest in doing this. I have a Calculus 3 test next week. It will be difficult to organize anything right now, but look for something coming up soon.

Has anyone heard of the Hack Factory?

I'm still interested in getting together once in awhile as long as the travel isn't too far. I notice Duane is in White Bear Lake. I am just across the river in the New Richmond/Somerset area.

Is there any interest in meeting at a restaurant in or near St. Paul? We could talk about the best way to organize our future meetings. Just a thought.

Wow, you guys respond fast. Any time during the week after 4:30 and most weekends I am free. Would anyone like to try for this weekend? Say around noon on Saturday. Location TBD.

Newt's in Rochester, on Friday night?

Being that I'm in MSP, that's a bit of a drive, but it's also fantastic cheap food.

I could do this Saturday, maybe more like 1pm (I have another meeting until noon) in MSP. Other Saturdays this month would work. Weekday evenings depend on the specific dates

This saturday may be too short of a notice for us for a drive to MSP, but if anyone wanted to come to Rochester (Friday/Sat/Sun = we're free), that's an option for us! And we can host any hacking session afterwards

I'd definitely be interested in an MSP-based meetup. I might even be able to make it work for this Saturday ~1pm, as Mike suggested.

So who is interested in meeting at 1:00 Saturday? Once we have a head count we can pick the venue.

Pick a place and I'll do my best to be there. I'm near the airport, but don't mind a little driving.

Does anyone have an idea for a good meeting location? Would a Perkins or other restaurants be a good place for a first meeting?

Unfortunately, I will be unavailable Saturdays for the next few weeks. I am a Vessel Safety Inspector for the US Power Squadron and it's SPRING! and people want to get their boats ready.

Which brings up why I'm posting this: We often meet at the Davannis Pizza on White Bear Ave. and I94. They have a couple of rooms that are somewhat separated from the rest of the store. I don't know about Saturday afternoon, though because of the possibility of lots of kids having birthay bashes, etc.

I also belong to another organization that has regular meetings at a Perkins in Hudson, WI. That wouldn't work for us, but I'm sure all of the Perkins probably have a similar capability.

Another thing you might try is city council buildings. Schools might be a good idea to try, too and maybe would provide some exposure to interested kids...

Given the shortness of time, I'll put a stake in the ground and propose we meet at 1pm Saturday 5/12 in the Coffee Gallery of the Open Book building <http://www.openbookmn.org/explore_coffeegallery.aspx>. This is at 1011 Washington Ave. S., Minneapolis, MN 55415 -- about 3 blocks west of 35W, a couple doors down from Big Brain Comics. I look forward to meeting whomever can attend.

    I'll be there.

I will bring some props on breadboards and a computer to run them.

So how many people showed up last time? Should we do it again this week? By defining the meeting sooner, I would expect more turnout (I didn't make it because I didn't see the post in time).
