now not to be mistaken the only reason i mentioned bulk was to point out if i can get these parts that cheap, imagine how cheap radio-shack can get them.

AND when i said EMPTY BINS i mean with NO TAGS LABELS OR ANY OTHER WAY OF KNOWING WHAT GOES THERE.
they just don't even use all the space they do have let alone stock a sensible selection of items.
i am not using CAPS for anger, merely for emphasis.

glue logic is so important, yes you can use FPGAs and PLDs but when prototyping at the hobby/inventer level it is a little silly to ignore the visual tool of SEEing real chips in front of you.
and come on raise your hand if you want to see a PROP40pin dip. i think i will start a poll.

One thing you have to remember is the cost of packaging. I'm sure the blister pack will not be close to the component inserted, ( 1/4 watt resistor quantity one), but the factor has to be included. And the shipping to the stores. It all adds up. You can not sell a .25 cent resistor at the store for .25 cent.

    My .02 cents

Jim , you are right and I would never suggests single pack for resisters or diodes etc
fyi I have submited some of these ideas to corporate . New we wait for resisters their respouse.

yes i know you can not sell a 25 cent resistor for 25 cent.
but you can sell 4 1 cent resistors for 50 cent rather then a dollar.
or a 10 cent IR sensor for $1.50 instead of $4.50
may i mention RS is heading to the same packaging as many whole-sellers use i simple sealed bag with their logo on it.
same package + cheaper product at a higher cost= LOWER SELLS
    simple economics!
back in the day when internet stores were scarce and radio shack was only slightly high priced it was ok, now it is just plain unacceptable.
Plus I want to point at the simple FACT they hiked the prices on parts to run us off and just forgot to lower them.
They didn't want us geeks scaring off the beginners(i did not want the word "beginner" here but rather i wanted to describe the people who runs out and buy expensive items as a show that they can afford it, not out of need or real want but rather as a why to smear it in everyone else's face. where as beginner denotes they are just starters, but the people i am talking about are not starters in anything they are the people radio shack was trying to sell to the want to seem rich middle income brackets who will place $200 on a cell phone just cause a cute add had some models using it. my original word was an old cowboy phrase wich means a person trying to seem something they are not and not having a clue how to do it right, however where ever the Moderator is from this seems to be a racial slur, i am sorry if in your part of the world this word was abused and turned into a racist word. it would have been nice to have given me a chance to edit my own post first as to retain my tone and emphasis.) wanting expensive cell phones as a status symbol.
I have been shopping at the shack for 20 years, and I just want to see a return to their roots, i even collect their memorabilia, like the old comics and hand outs and adds. i have a "tell us where it Hz" poster on my wall and one in a protective tube.
don't get me wrong, i like the shack, but a poorly aimed plan to reclaim us with overpriced parts and more pre-made kits at high prices just may send the company into ruin.
I think recent events has proven no company is to big to fail, and radio shack is no exception.
really tell the truth do you need a Quick-Start board EVERY TIME you need a propeller?
do you always need an ARDUINO when you want to use a ATMEGA?
    the answer is NO.....
do you want to see a few simple parts like the DIP PROP ATMEGAS some CRYSTALS and SOME EEPROMS and the PROP PLUG at the shack.
I bet the answer is YES.
