Increasing surface area for laser detection.

Hey All - I am trying to detect a laser with a sensor, for now I am TSL230 since I had it on hand, but am not sold on that. I am trying to detect if the sensor is hit by a laser fired from a robot. The only problem I have is that I want it to be easier to play, so a larger sensor.

Any tips for a sensor diffuser or ideas for an array of CDSs' . The size of the Parallax PIR would be about perfect.

Here is what I am doing so far: http://www.instructables.com/id/Tankbot-Internet-Controlled-Tank-Robot/

Cheers,
-Joe

    Hi Joe,

could you cut a hole in a ping pong ball, place the ping pong ball over the sensor?
Or, if you want more directionality, perhaps use a lens that focuses upon your sensor?
Or some combo of these two ideas?

    Just a thought.

No need to be embarrassed by this use of ping pong balls. Check out how ping pong balls are used in integrating spheres and in photomicrophotography: http://www.photomacrography.net/forum/viewtopic.php?p=50820
