Xmos has released a new variant.
It has some interesting decisions :
http://www.eetimes.com/electronics-products/electronic-product-reviews/processors/4238300/New-XMOS-XS1-S-processors-simplify-high-speed-USB-audio-design
* 64K RAM/ 8K OTP is unchanged from XS-1
* Peak MHz is unchanged. (100MHz/thread)
* Adds 12b 1MSps ADC
* Adds High Speed USB PHY, so covers 480MBd/12MBd/1.5MBd
* Adds 5V/3v3 regulators, and switching regulators for the Core Vcc.
* Package is a 10mm, 0.8mm pitch BGA96
* only 34 io pins, 3.3V rated
* Power On Reset, Watchog timer, brownout detect circuits
* On-chip crystal oscillator & RC oscillators
* claims to be "priced below $5 in 10ku"
So it is much more 'single package' than their earlier offerings.
No mention yet of other package choices.

It should be available from RS and D-K in six to eight weeks.
Interface it to a fast ADC and it would make a nice two-chip software-defined radio.
