Even at $4.50/gallon, wouldn't the $27,000 difference between a $46K Volt and a $19K, 58 mpg Chevy Cruze Eco buy a lifetime of gas?

mikev: If you get me one at a smokin' discount, I'll drive it to EXPO and get you some great press.

Plus, I'll throw in a Basic Stamp and some relays...

How about a flame-throwin' BoeBot? Sorry Ken!

You got any more good dirt on the EV-1 than I saw in "Who Killed the Electric Car"? :)

I drive past "Electric Vehicle Drive" and GM's development center in Torrance almost every day and wonder what cool things are going on inside.

And occasionally I drive past Honda's R&D center (also in Torrance) where the Asimo robots are maintained, and wonder how I can get in there.

I've seen a LOT of negative comments on the internet about the Volt from automotive types...

And I have noticed these same people are good at "mechanical things", but don't know much at all about electrical/electronic things.

So I'm thinking the basis for these negative comments is mostly due to the fact it is electric? And they can't "modify" the engine to make it have more power, switch out to a fancy looking air filter, super duper spark plug wires, or other changes???

(Of course the people HERE could make all sorts of electrical modifications... )

Pulg wires and carbs make way for cracked firmware and larger MOSFETS ( or IGBTs)

its gonna be EEs and the geeks with soldering guns that will get a Volt to do a 5 Sec 1/4 mile .. not many mike and joe at pepBoys .

sadly a 300+ volt bat pack is more lethal then a tank of gas in the hands of a weekend warrior .

I have seen a 36V Golf cart pack get shorted by some noobs here at the EET lab . YIKES !

Its Kinda funny as my senior project I have picked is a tri Fuel Hybrid golf cart ..

Propane CNG and Gas .. .

just as a Volt does . its a Series Hybrid .. so its all EV drive .. but has a Aux power off a IC to get a charge on the go .

I'm sure someone will come out with Neon colored "Oxygen Free, Molecular Aligned, Coherent Electron Flow" wiring to replace the factory wiring.

lol @ everyone. (comments that is). It is true the accelerator pedal is not connected to the ICE (internal combustion engine) at anytime, nor can the operater (driver of vehicle, not code...) raise rpms, turn the engine on, turn the engine off or any such shananagans. The modules do what they must. Yes eventually someone (*cough cough* EE, japan) will make a mach 2 volt. Saying that the volt is in fact driven by one or two electric motors... on or off... will probly injure people so it has been toned down quite a bit in the ways of software. I am still checking on the EV-1. It was before my time so to speak. Any info I find here is what you probly already know. Although the an 80 yr old employee here....maybe he had the first one. O.o

    currently 38k discount 1k = 37k

Are you saying GM only gives it's employees a $1000 discount? Even Walmart does 10%...

    :)

It depends on what the employee is buying. Say a 2011 chevy Silverado standard cab V6 work truck. $22795 for the truck is 1500 off for employee then 500 off for perferred pricing = 22400 - 1500 = 20900. Where as if I bought a Chevy Sonic I would get perferred pricing but only $250 off. It depends on what is bought. Even then the employee has to know someone in finance cause the dealership tends to rip off employees most of the time. *Sigh, the world we live in* Hey I bought a Servo Pal for my Boe Bot =]

Shoot, I would have traded you TWO Servopals for a Volt... plus thrown in that flamethrowing BoeBot!
