PC fan not working

I have a 12 volt pc fan I want to control with my BASIC stamp homework board. When i plug it into the VDD it works fine, but when I connect it to an I/O port and send voltage to it it wont work. I tested the circuit/program by connecting a LED and it worked fine. Is there something I need to know about using this fan?

A fan will take far more current than can be provided by an output port. Use a suitable BJT circuit to drive it.

"Where specifically"? Read it. You'll learn about fans / motors / solenoids and Stamp I/O pins.
