Com port malfunction

While compiling a demo program available from the site (parallax), my computer suddenly would not identify basic stamps; quote "basic stamps is not found. After restarting my computer and reopening the program, I checked my ports and one com port was unable to open stating "code 121." I was wondering if anyone had any intel on this situation?

    I had similar problems when attempting to use my Parallax Super Carrier board with serial cable.
    it turned out that my serial port was blocked.
    I use Windows XP as operating system.
    I ended up purchasing a serial to usb adapter and everything started working.
    I had several error codes before using the USB adapter, I'm not sure if 121 was one of the errors or not.
    I'm just starting to develop Basic Stamp solutions to my simple problems.
    I use BS1 modules so far.
    After using the usb to serial adapter, I had no further problems.
