Why won't FlashFly Remote Module + RS-232 Adapter + Bluetooth Bee program a BS2?

I want to wirelessly program my RS-232 BS2 boards. I could buy the BlueWolf FlashFly Xbee kit, but I would prefer to Bluetooth because I have three machines with Bluetooth built in.
So suppose I bought a FlashFly Remote Module and RS-232 Adapter. But instead of using an XBee I bought a Bluetooth Bee. The Bluetooth Bee is in the Xbee form factor, but uses Bluetooth to transport data. However, it does supports CTS and RTS for data control. So on the surface it sounds like this should work instead of an XBee.
Now I've heard people say that Bluetooth won't work due to timing issues. But why? It can't be that a radio link is involved because Xbee works. So what is different about Bluetooth?
