I like the one on the right of the attached images the most. (#3)It's distinctive, but I would associate it with some math program or other. It is distinctive though. Once that association was corrected, I would easily find #3.
Here's one with a tiny font with the program name in the icon.
...just in case you were looking for suggestions. No worries, if not. I'm partial to text, even if it's tiny text.
UPDATE: I had the beanie inverted. New image here --->
@jazzed - did Jen not provide some icons yet? The beanie is fine for as our underground symbol, but you won't see it featured on future Parallax material, especially related to Propeller 2. Concur with Phil on this - please lose the beanie.
It is said that logos should always be clean and simple.
The beanie is great on its own and the integral is great on its own but put the two together and it all gets to complex and fiddly.
".....a tranquil beachfront strewn with micro controller development boards...a rogue wave breaks on the shore clearing off the development boards and leaving a Parallax Beanie with a propeller. The beanie morphs into a ELEV-8 and flies off the beach toward a distant city....a second wave, shaped like a "C" crashed onto the beach leaving behind the stylized Parallax Semiconductor logo in gleaming 3-D blue metallic. Circuit traces start spreading out from the logo across the beach sprouting sensors, robots, development boards and such...."

Rick, your writing skills are awesome!
Cool use of Monroe’s Motivated Sequence persuasive approach. I am moved.
Given the comment Heater made, and one I agree with, why not just pack "I D E" into the icon, with three colors? Icon color and contrast are primary location keys, with the detail being a secondary.
I thought about that. But IDE = Integrated Develoment Environment.
So SIDE would have to be an "s" followed by the integral sign followed by "de".
or perhaps just the integral sign followed by "de". Which would look suitably mathematical.
Wish I could draw it on this phone.
@Steve: It's nice, but not terribly meaningful to a casual user. From a "marketing" perspective if the"customer" asks, "What does that mean?" then you've already lost. Some thought the Propeller beanie icon was cute and clever but it backfired -- I'd submit that this is going to the other extreme. This is why I like Phil's little icon; C (on a keycap, no less) with an arrow pointing into what is obviously a chip; no mystery there.

And is the simple IDE aimed at the pros?
I'll just use the integral symbol for now. I might find another "function" to integrate.
Been there before

I won't explain it. If it's not obvious what it represents, it's not working.

Me too. Maybe the integral should be almost the same size as the other letters.
Ken asked Jen J. to provide something for us. I trust that anyone with a chainsaw in their avatar can cut to the point.
I shall send you some ideas this week. I like the integral sign as a jumping off point.
haha! Thanks, Steve!

I like how the arrowhead shape implies motion pushing C down to the hardware. Well done!!
(if you had an axe, I'd vote for your icon!)
The 8 in my last idea is made with 2 COGs. "Propably" not so clear
If you don't get it, you haven't seen me code.
CodeAxe is actually a pretty good name.
