Progrmming a bs2 while on a bread board

I used the parallax usb2serial with the serial2ttl bs1 adaptor when I was experimenting with a BS1 sip module on the bread board. All I have is usb ports. Would the same set up work for programming the BS2? I figure I'd better ask before I fry something.

Yes, the BS2 expects RS232 signals, so the output of the usb to serial is just what it is expecting. If you look at page 28 of the Basic Stamp manual you'll see a schematic for connecting RS232 lines to a Basic Stamp 2. Basically Rx goes to pin 1, Tx goes to pin 2, DTR goes to pin 3, ground goes to pin 4, and a 0.1 uF capacitor is between pins 4 and 5. There's not much to it as the Basic Stamp 2 is pretty self contained.

Cinchy. I made a cable out of 4-pin female header 18 years ago and I'm still using it on home-rolled PCBs. You could make one out of a male header for use in a breadboard. See http://forums.parallax.com/showthread.php?125692 You'll still need a USB/Serial adapter, obviously.

I just bought the "USB-to-232" adapter board from Parallax. I use it on the BS2 board.
