That is to say, there are a lot of HERO robots on Ebay. Seller lrp2000 is clearing house! Might be some deals to be had. Hero 2000 is currently just $31! Hero Jr for $10! Might go up... :)

Robert would have been my guess too, but the seller is in the wrong state for it to be Robert.

Does anyone have an idea of how strong this Hero arm is?

I'm still wondering about a robot arm that can pickup and move filled (with water) quart bottles.

Pretty strong. I have an H2000 with the same arm pictured (which is also the same as in the arm trainer, plus an extra turntable motor). There are some cables and are some exposed nylon bevel gears at the elbow & wrist and the nylon gears in the gripper can wear/break. Like anything, the whole arm will give/flex as the load gets heavier, so positional error increases. I wouldn't plan to heft much over a pound accurately, to be on the safe side.

I haven't yet Youtubed my H2000 bartending 20 years ago. It's still on a dusty VHS tape. Probably in the Corvair.

I'm surprised nobody has posted a DIY hero using modern components. There's a mini RB5X using and Arduino http://letsmakerobots.com/node/31158 and the Hero was pretty popular.

Dude, don't keep it there! The floorboards may rust out and the tape will fall out onto the road!

Doesn't the Corvair need to be out on the road for that to happen, Gordon?? (just askin')

Corvairs don't need to be driven for the Big Two: Rusted-through floorboards and broken fan belts. In fact, fan belts have been known to break just *looking* at the right-angle turn they have to make. "McCahill, what were you thinking?!?" they say as they're slipped from their thin cardboard packaging.
