Any SciFi fans here? The protagonist in Bester's 1956 "The Stars My Destination" gets his central nervous system rewired. A flick of a tooth-mounted switch turns him into a high-speed Superman for short periods of time.

Peculiar similarity to this new tongue drive : http://www.rdmag.com/News/2012/02/Information-Technology-Wireless-New-Tongue-Drive-System-To-Improve-Performance-User-Comfort/?et_cid=2493457&et_rid=54725820&linkid=http%3a%2f%2fwww.rdmag.com%2fNews%2f2012%2f02%2fInformation-Technology-Wireless-New-Tongue-Drive-System-To-Improve-Performance-User-Comfort%2f

"Tongue Drive is a wireless device that enables people with high-level spinal cord injuries to operate a computer and maneuver an electrically powered wheelchair simply by moving their tongues." Relatively speaking, these physically challenged people can become self-sufficient Supermen.

I can't wait to see if "A Canticle for Liebowitz" comes true. Keep your paper books (not eBooks) just in case.
