These days, it's a losing battle to keep buying the "latest & greatest" anything!
To be honest, I never used the Nook as it was originally intended, so I didn't have any performance benchmarking. I got the Color a year ago solely to be used as a cheap Android tablet as I already had a Kindle for e-reading - I rooted it as soon as it was out of the box. I haven't really noticed any speed issues, but I do have some app compatibility problems (can't purchase things, random crashes, etc.)

There is also the market available as a side download.
I started with a higher class kingston, but Sandisk according to the forums is faster in small read/writes.
In my case it proved to be true.
