I think this course has been mentioned previously. Anyway, it's now open for enrollment:

https://6002x.mitx.mit.edu/

I studied all that stuff nearly 50 years ago. I've signed up for it, to see if my few remaining brain cells can still cope with it.

Try whatever you want, Leon, but it won't be the same without me in the back row, snoring out loud.

I checked on the price of the course textbook - $87.86 from Amazon. It isn't essential, because all the necessary information is provided, but I might get a copy.

I just ordered it from Amazon. It says it ships in one to three weeks so it would be best to order soon.

It's been 25 years since I had a similar course, it will be interesting to revisit.

Wow! That's some serious prerequisites. I could probably handle it if I had someone sitting with me who could read all the equasions and stuff, but that's not an option at the moment. Plus, my math skills are a bit rusty, I think I'll have to sit this one out, as interesting as it sounds. I know there's no penalty for failure, but I can't justify dragging the rest of the class down with me. :) Good to see online courses are picking up though. Now, only if they're a little more accessible (flash isn't on osx, and only barely on pcs) html5 would be better, but that's still coming I think for most places. I plan to keep an eye on this site though, so I can see when similar things are offered. Thanks for the pointer.

Actually, previous MIT courses mentioned were mostly more advance stuff - particularly Artificial Intelligence.

This one is very much a 'goodie' and I think the text may be equally useful. It is a comprehensive introduction to analog and digital electronics. At times we all loose sight of the fundamentals and yet they really guide us toward the best designs.

This is the course it is based on:

    http://ocw.mit.edu/courses/electrical-engineering-and-computer-science/6-002-circuits-and-electronics-spring-2007/video-lectures/

One could work through some of that course before the MITx course starts, to get a head start.

The book came from Amazon yesterday, heavy sucker!!!

I gave it a quick look, brings back memories, covers a lot of ground.

Students need to check the mitx.mit.edu web site on the 5th:

I just got an email inviting me to login to the course. Login worked, and I got a welcome to the first day of class. The first four lectures are available.

I'm finding it very nostalgic to be given homework(!) The online courseware seems to work very nicely, a couple of quirks but pretty slick overall (like the variable speed video..) - wondering if their web courseware system is open source actually?

    FYI:

It seems there is a problem with correct answers being determined as correct. If anyone runs into this..... carry your answer to three decimal places. For example:

-1.17 is incorrect, but -1.172 is correct even though the "Check answers" says -1.17 is a good number.

Carrying to three decimal places seems to work later on too.... I'll let you know if it changes.

This course is nearly kicking my tail. I've almost quit several times already and I'm four days behind.

Kirchhoff's circuit laws have presented themselves to me again with all the frustration I remember. I'm getting correct KVL and KCL answers about 50% of the time now which is a marked improvement over when I started. I don't know HOW I made it through Kichoff's Smile in college.

As you can tell, I haven't started week 2 courses yet :(

I finished the homework and lab before Sunday for once.

It's been fun so far, hard to dedicate as much time as I'd like, but it has been worthwhile.

I really like Prof. Agarwal's lectures.
It's nice to play back at 1.25x or 1.5x when I'm short on time, and the "closed captioning" is nice.
