Quick wander around Parallax found a couple of new things. . .

Took a walk back into the Kitting area and they were just closing up fiity (50) ELEV-8 kits. There's a lot of interesting hardware and attention in each of these kits - a true test of our internal "Parallax hardware is free to employees" policy. Everybody wants one, but we're refraining so we can get them into the hands of our customers.

And Gordon's new book arrived in inventory, too! Nice work, Gordon, Stephanie, Jen J and our customers who reviewed the content.

On the way back to my office I found the King Toddler keeping watch. . . over something - still not sure since he only walks around the building at night.

Will the Kickstart books end up in Radio Shack too?

    King Toddler is ominous!

    That would be cool.

Yes, that is the plan! Do you have a bug in my office?

I've heard a rumor that the King Toddler can communicate though ether to other "lesser" Toddlers. Perhaps that's how. :D

Actually, it was a logical conclusion based on concurrent offerings at Radio Shack from Make:.

When I was at a RS here a few weeks ago there was a guy buying Arduinos, and I talked with him about his project. He took the Arduino for no reason other than that there was a physical book there about Arduinos as well, and he'd paged through that to see if it'd do what he wanted to do (controlling lights on his truck). I think having the Kickstart book there in physical form will help quite a bit.

There is a physical book in the works for Propeller which is being designed to be the counterpart.

Very neat, Jeff and Nick! Since it's an O'Reilly book, will it have an animal on the cover? Might I suggest an octopus? :)

It would be good for Radio Shack as well as you and Parallax.

I've been meaning to congratulate you on getting the book published and this is a good time so congratulations!!!

Their Getting Started books don't have animals. They use the basic color schemes of Make Mag. This might actually be the final cover. They're all very simple, which I like.

    Congrats Jeff and Nick!

Thanks. Most of the kudos on the book really go to Stephanie Lindsay. It's all her hard work putting the Web content into a publishable form.

I'm also hopeful RS will see the benefits. When we started the project the feeling was they wouldn't entertain any books, but they're slowly being added, and I think the KS book certainly has a good chance.

Excellent! I hope this hits the shelf at Radio Shack soon. There is a store very close (not a far walk) and will pick one of these up when they get it in.

At least two of the RSs in my area have a basic Arduino book in the area with their Parallax and Arduino stuff. Again, I think it's a very good idea to have a book that folks can browse through sitting right there near the devices, so that the person who stumbles onto them can have some idea what they're capable of - and how easy it is.

Congratulations on the new book on the Propeller.

I remember back when I was a kid I used to buy the project books from radio shack and build the projects in them. Had a ball and learned a lot. It was a sad day when they discontinued most of their educational material. A lot of people learned a lot from those books and experimenter kits and like me ended up in the technology field. It's good to see that they're get back into the electronics business.
