best sensor for water drops

any suggestion what sensor we need to use in order to count the water drop? actually, we will be using this sensor to count the drop of a dextrose and the number of drops will be shown in LCD (drops per second or drops per minutes).

    It could probably be done with an IR source and sensor, or a microphone, but I'd be inclined to deliver the solution with a peristaltic pump, so that I could control the rate easily in the first place.

    I have to agree with Leon regarding controlling delivery rate but if you want to count drops take a look at optical interrupters like the EE-SX3070 or EE-SX4070 from Omron. There are a lot of others available that will will also work for counting drops.
