boe-bot manual doesn't have a section on programming PING. Is there a guide?

I would like to write my own PING program, but I can't find anything on PING except for the demo code. I want my code to keep driving forward until it detects something in the way and then it turns and gets out of the way. The example code moves only when something is detected... can someone point me in the right direction to a guide?
