What does exactly VIN do ?

I know it's voltage coming from the power source but I've never used it. What can we do with it.

    If you've never used it then how are you powering your project? It would help if you let us know what board or module you have and how it is connected. Without that we really can't comment much about your question.

    Direct battery connection that gets regulated to 5V, for low current use. Vin is useful for motors & servos that need higher voltage & current.

    So Vin is when you want to tap directly from the battery pack or other supply voltage, wihout going through the regulator, etc.

    Some of the HW board experiments use Vin to drive the servo, which connects to the 9V battery. OK for brief experiments, but a servo should really have its own ~6V supply.
