Hi Guys,

I'm moving my thread from Propeller Forum to here since I find it more appropriate.

Intro :

my team and I are finishing a design for a robot to compete to Jeux de G

That looks like one tough challenge. Avoiding edges seems like the easiest part of the challenge. Moving through the spinning central obstacles looks like the hardest part. Overall it looks above my ability, so all I can say is good luck. A video of a competition would be great to watch.

Fantastic! I want to enter! Must I be a student to play? Please post a link to the rules!

That's EXACTLY the kind of competition we should be having more of. Perfect for education and seperating the serious from the slackers. Parallax should run a similar contest at every UPEW etc.

Me, I'd use a Stamp and be done with it. Maybe even a Stamp 1! A Prop seems like overkill.

Must find the rules. Is it a timed race? After I won the very first TCFFHRC in 1994 (using a BS1!), my robot was cast as hero and villain by the president of the Orange County Robotics Club, since it was a scratch-built robot optimized for the contest. I was likened to a "competitive primate" for my efforts. Hey, I just like a good challenge!

I probably can't enter (and don't really have the time to build a bot before Jan 3) but I think this is an awesome opportunity, and I salute the students and profs who get involved with this. Just fielding a robot takes dedication, and the winner will IMHO be a wiley combination of technical excellence and practical experience. Best of luck and please keep us updated! What a wonderful thing!

Hi Martin, we are able to get down the starting place with a hook/winch system. The first is not that hard. We're currently programming an object to get through the spinning part with the help of one IR and the parallax linescan module. I'll post some videos by the end of next week ;)
I'll also post a link to the results page, the competition is on january 6.
We're 8 people to design the robot at my university : 2 electrical, 2 mechanical and 4 programmers. Each university is going for a different design.

    Thanks for your interest erco!
The competition is reserved for engineering student of our province, it is one of the challenge of the engineering games, we have sports, academics, improvisation, speechs and other challenge to do. I'll get you the link to the rules tomorrow, I think I've seen english rules. I don't think the prop is overkill, we have to get working :
3 IR module and the linescan sensor, with a 4 chan ADC
    One stepper motor
    4 DC motor (4 h-bridges)
    2 servomotor
    One dual axis inclinometer (SCA100T)
One composite signal with gui for quick debug and infos
And we have to get all that working together, we do not have that much cogs and memory left ;)

Thanks Fred! I was wondering how fast those paddles spun. 5 RPM seems manageable. Good luck to your team!

Sorry for the LONG delay :) I've been extremely busy since I moved to Montreal. Worse of all, the place I moved in do not have internet!!!
For the competition, we did not finished in the 3 first place because of technical problems (batteries) but we were close to. Here is the youtube video we had to do to present the machine to the 450 students that assisted to the competition : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y8sNFlrmCow
