It's the season, so here's a fun tree design for the kids that involves flashing leds and no soldering.
There are 6 branches, each having one flashing led (5mm) plus one or two normal 3mm leds depending on voltage drop.
All 6 branches channel through the luxeon 'star' at the top, which "twinkles" due to the semi random currents drawn by the flashing branches.
