It is completely compatable with the Propeller ASC!

I am ashamed to admit it, but I came really close to buying that.

Without the eyes, it's basically a platform you can mount a breadboard, batteries, etc. to without paying for the expense of a protoboard with lots of holes that you are going to be covering up anyway. There is nothing wrong with the idea. If EMSL wants to have fun with it, why not?

Maybe I should put googly eyes on my Eggbot (also from EMSL).

We could put googly eyes on the Gadget Gangster boards.

Actually, it isn't such a silly idea. One of the problems I've had a few times is plugging in a GG board the wrong way round. pffzt :(

If the boards had eyes, that would be less likely. I've actually had a few GG boards made with a big half circle drawn at one end, like the notch on an IC.

Hmm- that half circle would make a very good looking 'nose'. Better get me some googly eyes..

Addit: Just picked up 100 stick-on eyes on ebay for $2.95 including shipping. This will be fun!

Great, now I have EBay competition from the Kiwis. Alas, Dr_Acula seeks whist I sleep. He summers whilst I winter! Confusion fall!

All Propeller ASC's going out the door from now on will be wrapped in BACON!

Haha!! BACON wins out over googly eyes, any day!!! Long live the Propeller ASC!!

Any chance that is retroactive? I really like bacon. :D

    I'll take 2 orders of bacon-boards, please.

I like my bacon a little on the chewy side Martin. I guess that's good because it's easier to wrap the boards that way.

Please be aware that I can not ship these boards to the EU because bacon is not RoHS compliant.

So I need to requisition some of these to include with sales of the ProtoPlus Module? :)

    Whatever you guys want... :):):)

They might get banned in San Diego if they use the "Happy Meal" law to say you are baiting kids to eat unhealthy food with a fun toy...

Uh oh.. Does this mean I shouldn't be putting prizes in the shipments to CA? ;)

You guys who have ordered from GG know what I'm talking about...

No OBC, Bacon trumps googley eays every time. Just wrap'em in bacon and they'll sell like hotcakes.

Ok, now we've upped the ante with BACON and HOTCAKES.....the Prop BOE must come with waffles (and BACON, of course)?

I guess that Arduino board is what you'd call an eyePad.

Did somebody call in a salesman? Here I am! Never mind the bacon, mindrobots! The Propeller BOE comes with prosciutto!

The Propeller BOE might have an impressive set of features, but it's the benefits which are truly not something for a bulleted list. Nearly everything you need to proceed with Parallax educational resources is packed on this board. The on-line resources produced by our educational department are easy, rewarding and expansive (from LEDs and Propeller Boe-Bots to speech synthesis), and will be featured initially in Spin and then PropGCC. Having a Propeller BOE is an investment in one's self, whether for education, hobby or product development. Multi-core will be made easy with our examples, focusing on easy-to-understand, impressive examples.

    PropBOE Rev A1.jpg

And if it's the feature list you're interested in, I think this is pretty close:
    • P8X32A-Q44 Processor
    • 512 kb EEPROM
    • 3.3 V, 500 mA and 5 V, 2 A switching regulator outputs
    • 2.1 mm barrel jack
    • 9 V Battery Clip
    • Mini-B USB programming port
    • MicroSD card socket
    • XBee socket
    • I2C 4-Channel 100 ksps (min) A/D ported to sockets below breadboard
    • Buffered 2-Channel PWM D/A ported to sockets below breadboard
    • Stereo headphone jack
    • Electret microphone
    • VGA video output
    • LED lights for PWR 1, 2, USB and XBee status, D/A, and VGA
    • Six servo ports with selectable Vin/Vdd jumpers and 3.9 k series resistors
    • Blue PCB
    • BOE-compatible footprint/mounting holes
    • 17-row x 2-column breadboard
    • 3-position power switch & reset button
    • Open Source Eagle Schematic & Layout
And, since the speech synthesis and audio in examples are an important part of this (even on a Boe-Bot chassis), we'll even have some deals where we include one of these:

    veho360.jpg

a veho360 speaker with 2.4W. Today we ordered these for inventory. 120 units will be here next week.

We've also got our final Propeller BOE schedule in circulation inside the office. Can't say exactly what the release date is, but it's within reach!

I'll get the pre-ordering set up as soon as possible.

I've seen the schematic and layout details for the PropBOE and can verify that it's a real gem of a board. The Parallax design team has done a bang-up job on this one!

Ken, does the proto in in the photo have the latest layout on the bottom side that you can share with people?

Yes, but the board is 100 miles away from where I am at the moment. When I get home tomorrow I'll see about getting a picture of the back for everybody.

I have a different version than the one in Ken's picture -- mine has more silkscreen legends, plus jumpers to set the voltage source for the three sets of servo headers. I wonder if mine is an earlier prototype. Antway, the back is different, too, but to describe it there's a nifty "surface mount playground" on the left for all the Prop pins, plus smaller ones for XBee and MicroSD on the bottom center. I took a picture, but it didn't turn out, and besides, it contains a URL for a support page that the Parallax folks may not want to make public yet.

So Phil, you don't want one of these. You really don't. You want AT LEAST two.

    @Ken
    Looks like a great board.
Are you still on schedule for us to buy one before Christmas.

My present project in the spirit of Gordon's Kickstarts is to interface the Radio Shack Meter that has Rs 232 output to a prop Quickstart board and also, for my own
education of what an Arduino is, to an Ardunio.
My thoughts are to show the advantage of the prop having multi core instead of interupts.
Right now I am at the build a kludge and learn from it, I will start a thread or maybe blog on where I am at.
Long range I plan on logging data to an SD card and also sending data by XBEE.
Which is why I ask about the new BOE board as it is a better platform for doing more than just displaying what the meter is sending.

    Thank's
    Tom

I actually have those 'oogle eyes' in three different sizes on hand. Maybe that's all that is needed to make a gadget feature-rich.

Personally, I prefer the engineered approach in contrast to the arty one - though the latter has a lot of 'look at me' involved. I'm still watching the PropBOE unfold as a major Parallax milestone.
