Just out of curiosity is the bs2 family capable of running a 4,6, or 8 cylinder automotive engines? I know it will require many other components but is the speed of it capable of handling the many sensors and timing, or would the prop be a better choice?

The prop would be a better choice just because it is a more capable chip.

this is off topic but when i was looking at the prop manual I didn't see any serial commands like in the bs2. Do you have to program that function or is there a command im over looking?

The Propeller Chip doesn't work like that. There are Objects (code) that you can use for serial communication.

Click on the "OBEX" tab at the top of this page and you can browse a ton of them.
