Just an FYI for if anyone needs one in a pinch.

They are asking $39.99 for it.

The Parallax store has it for $25

Figuring it might be $5 in shipping and depending on your state you still may need to pay tax, the extra $10 to have it now might be worth it.

The difference is a $15 USB cable that costs < $1

Well you gotta charge for ordering, warehousing, kitting, packaging, shipping. Adds up to a $75 hammer. :)

Actually, Ken said the retail packaging adds a lot to the price.

That USB cable is actually good quality. It is far far superior to the one's that come (came) in the Prop Education Kits. :D

The cable that I bought at Dollar Tree is better than the cable that came with my Blackberry Torch. The cable with the Torch doesn't have proper fitting locking tangs and the connector has a tendency to pop out and cock sideways.

I wonder if Fry's, the place where I usually see Parallax stuff, will start carrying the QuickStart board?

Not sure if it's select stores, but see bottom of page:

Unfortunately you never know what you'll get for your dollar, as they buy whatever cable is being sold by the Chinese exporters, or they pick up whatever closeout is handy. Some of the USB cables I've gotten were DOA (though most work fine, and at for $1 it's a fair bet even if there's a bad one every once in a while).

I'm curious: what is Radio Shack selling the Arduino Uno and basic shield for?

I picked up a couple of Uno boards for $34.99 each. The Ethernet Shield was $44.99. (Assuming you meant how much. If you meant why, I don't have an answer. :D)

$35 isn't bad. The usual online price is $30, so it's just a $5 premium. I'm guessing they wanted both Arduino and QuickStart at the same pricepoint?

I was dismayed to see the Quickstart board at a higher price ($39.99 at my store.)

    doggiedoc,
Radio Shack uses "tiered" pricing check other stores in your area for the base $34.99 price. My store is tier 1 thus higher price.
I have not checked but I think there is a store about 8 miles from me with the $35 price.

If your store is out of stock, ask for Direct 2 U and that gets it sent to you with FREE shipping.

I used direct 2 U before the QS got in stock. I've used it before - it's a nice option. Thanks for the tiered pricing info Jim.

I bought one at Radioshack as soon as I saw this thread. It was good to see Parallax items on the shelf.

I knew I could get the Quickstart from the website for $25, but wanted to start immediately after making the decision to start working with Propeller. So I forked over the $43.14 at RadioShack just to have it the same day I made up my mind.

The problem is RadioShack doesn't have a lot of other stuff stocked yet to help with building projects. The parts bins are so sparse and don't have a lot of little components. Also they don't have right stuff to really work on prototyping...so I've been fashioning things out of old wires and paper clips.

TheVig, It is true that they don't have a lot of parts. I think we represent a relatively small niche. When I built my machine I had to order a number of parts from companies that would ask for the name of my 'company'. I'm just a hobbyist. I've come to accept it as an advantage. There isn't a ton of competition for the things you create.
