Gyroscopes and GPS

I am currently looking into mounting sensors on a gas powered RC airplane and a gas powered RC truck. I was thinking about using a gyroscope and GPS for the airplane and either a sonar and IR combination or a Laser Range finder for the truck. Given that both will be move at 30 + MPH that makes the demands for the projects more intense.
I have selected items for each catagory that I will either purchase or own but was hoping to get opinions on what would work best.
So what is the general thinking on what sensors will work best and why?
