Im using a BISS0001 pir sensor with a standard 9v battery, how long should this battery last. (it only powers the pir sensor)

How do you have things connected? It looks like you need to power it with 5v max.

Its not a parallax brand, it has an input voltage of 5-20v. The one that i got is exactly the same except they added trim pots for sensitivity and to adjust time that the output stays high for after detection motion. Parallax does not have this option and it was easier than going with a 555 or other timing circuit
    .

Trying to get some specs on how much power this thing draws when it is not detecting movement.

We really can't tell you what someone else's sensor needs for power. You'll have to somehow find a datasheet on it and that should have your answer. The equivalent Parallax device draws about 23mA at 5V, 12mA at 3.3V. Do a web search for the batteries you're using and that should give you the battery capacity in mAh (milliAmp hours). With an alkaline 9V battery, you could operate the Parallax device for about 24 hours. Typically, these are switched on and off so they may operate for a few seconds every 15-30 seconds so the battery will last longer.

Thank you for the information, what im trying to find out is : What is the mA draw of 555-28027 when the unit is idle compared to when it has detected?

Can't help you there. I suspect it's not characterized (tested) at all. I doubt it varies much ... maybe a milliAmp or two at most. We're talking about 5-10% maybe.

Thank you, Unfortunately i was hoping to be able to run the PIR from a 9v for ~1 month or more. Didn't realize that it would draw that much when idle.
