Is there a way to search the contents of all text posts within one specific thread?

    Yes, to some extent, using the quoted thread title as one of the search terms in Google. (The longer the title, the better.) For example:
    Google: "fill the big brain" "telescope" site:forums.parallax.com

    There is also a "Search Thread" button in the middle of the toolbar that is shown directly above and towards the left of the top post.
