As you can tell from Phil's post above - this should be possible (I mean on the S2 - On the Propeller - it has been done). Speech synthesis is one of Chip Gracey's big interests and the Prop was designed with this capability. If you haven't seen or heard the Monks Singing Seven demo - I made this just playing around with the Propeller Education Kit. The code is in the Propeller Tool Library or on the Obex. - see the video below...
Somebody ran this on the S2 pretty early on, but it had a lot of static. I don't really understand what was going on though...
It could be really fun though and kids (and adults) would be very impressed.
