Any idea how to take a serial LCD 2 X 16 and making it displaying twice bigger characters as 1 X 8 or so...

    Unless the serial LCD is designed to be used that way, there's not really a good way. There are some graphic displays that have a built-in font for use as a 2 x 16 display and you could display bigger characters as graphics, but that's about it.

    Here's one graphics display with several different font sizes. The largest displays as 2 x 10.
