Hi,
I am new to the propeller world and just received my Propeller Quickstart :D (Yeahh)... I plugged it in, there's current and everything but my computer doesn't detect anything, it doesn't even see the USB connection... I tried various USB ports that I know are working and still no change... I can't fint any doccumentation about that :( I can't install the driver neither because I don't know how to do it in windows 7 when the device is undetected.
Do you have any sugestions on how I could make it work ?

thank you

MultiX

Hi and welcome to the forums, the usb to serial chip onboard the Quickstart is a FTDI device and the Windows driver can be found here

I just installed the driver you pointed out and rebooted my computer but the prop still goes undetected. It is still not in the device manager and The prop tool can't detect it neither it says there is nothing plugged in the COM3 port
What else can I do ?

    thank you

You may need to call Parallax Tech Support. 90% or more of this sort of complaint is due to: 1) Not having the proper USB driver installed. 2) Not having power applied to the board. 3) Having a bad USB cable.

In your case, the board is powered from the USB port and you've just downloaded and installed the proper USB driver, so there may be something else going on and a forum may not be the best way to resolve the problem. Often speaking with a person will lead to a fix much more quickly than this slow back and forth.

Is it still important that the Prop is NOT plugged in while the FTDI driver is installed?
Just wondering if this is still true?..

I am currently chatting with their tech support ... thank you for your answers I hope we'll be able to get it to work...

Edit: I have to send them the board back so they can test the Chips ... that's pretty disappointing since it is brand new and I have to get working on it right away :( anyway I'll do what I have to to get things to work

They must have decided that they didn't understand why your board doesn't work. Parallax does take a lot of care in the design and manufacture of their boards and they're tested before they're put into inventory. If a problem got past the testing, they need the board back to try to figure out what went wrong, correct that if possible, and particularly find out why it was able to get past the test stage so they can improve that. I'm sure they're already sending you a replacement board.

I hope they'll send another one at least while they have mine so I don't have to wait 1 month before starting my project...
thank you for your quick answers

EDIT: Ahah I got it to work :D it was the cable... it transmitted current but for an unknow reason the computer didn't recognize the device I tried with another cable and everything works fine :D
