My spare time... Propeller game console

Hello all.... While i have been learning C and working with the ASC some more, I decided to take on another project. My little sister(9 this week) REALLY loves my SpaceAce! game. I used to let her come down to my lab and play it on the C3, but she wanted to play it on a bigger screen. So, after i lot of work, i made her this as a birthday present...

It uses the same pin configurations for keyboard and TV that the ASC uses(To simplify prototyping) and works uses a cartridge based system. The cartridge is just a I2C EEPROM that the Propeller uses as its main boot device, but it can be removed easily and another inserted, which contains another game on it. The case is not very aesthetically pleasing(One of my first attempts to mount electronics in a case). It works very well though, and is easy enough for a 9 year old to figure out. It is powered by a 5 volt cell phone charger and uses one of WBA's DIP boards with the EEPROM removed so it will boot from the cartridge. My next project is going to involve a stun gun and a glove. I will try not to kill myself, Which shouldn't be to hard seeing as the stun gun can only deliver a few mA's :)

Ps... This picture was taken from her room, NOT mine lol. I also noticed that the second picture has a motion blur. Just ignore that one.

Nice work. I'm fond of the cartridge idea. I have M&M's in my room too.

In addition to the hair, you must be the best big brother around.

Awesome job and an excellent present! My daughter is still waiting for her handheld propeller gamer that I have all the parts for. For another idea for cartridge style loading, check out my EEPROM Key solution for my Thermistor Tester. I used 4 pin Molex connectors for the "key".

I thought about doing a cart setup similar to that, but then I discovered you can do boot loading off an SD card and it seemed like a better solution. The sd card setup seems like it would be similar in cost to a single cart, and you can stack many games on it.

Thanks for the comments everybody... I chose to use a cartridge based system because i don't think my sister would know how to use a OS(PASos or others). Maybe, when she is older, i will make her a nicer one:)

There is a bootloader from Gadget Gangster (Which I think was originally made by Baggers, but "rebranded") that is controller based and lists files

I also wrote a bootloaded for the C3 that uses the keyboard and controller, but the SD Card libraries would have to be replaced.
