We are wandering a bit far from the book's main theme, aren't we?
Yes indeed, using a hammer is dangerous - so even though I was a good carpenter at 13, California excluded me from work in construction trades until I was 18. So how is one to apprentice? The same industry is willing to use under age illegal aliens for just about everything.
If you want good references to Chi, I suggest the reading list for the State of California Acupuncture Board's site. But please be advise that while acupuncture does often work, my experience of many years has been that good available practitioners average about one of three and being a licensed Western medical doctor doesn't mean you know anything. And some of the best practitioners may not have any Western licenses.
Frankly, the Chinese herbal system generally offers better results - if you use a good reference and stay away from the obviously toxic items, like mercury. When properly applied the herbs are better than acupuncture treatment, which doesn't last very long.
The concept of Chi is interesting, but highly exploited by gurus and psychics that make claims far beyond the healers ability. For instance, in spite of Chinese medicine being available in Taiwan - both herbal and acupuncture; Taiwan's number one killer is cancer due to decades of pollution from heavy industry. You just can't meditate yourself out of a bad environment - clean air, clean drinking water, and good food are necessary for good health.
Adam,
Good for you, a CNC router is a pretty impressive feat already.
When I was your age, fourty years ago, there was still the option for us to leave school and start work. Which with that level of education probably meant work down the local coal mines or in a factory or in agriculture. One was expected to be an adult already and fully responsible for ones actions.
You are responsible. So look for advice and guidance fron those who have been ther before. As I'm sure you do. Think everything though, "what could possibly go wrong"? Then think it through again.
Whilst our education system may be very "safe" I'll tell you why it is actually vary dangerous. Looks to me like we have a generation of very bored teenagers. They were never stretched or challenged at school. Their curiosity has been stamped out.Their horizons are very near by. Soon they have nothing to think about but smoking dope and binge drinking.
This is more harmful than any school full of machine shops and chemisty labs.

The environment today is ugly to me. So many things discouraged. IMHO, we will pay for that as a people later on. Just let the current up and comers cycle through, lesson learned, and then things will come full circle again. Many of us may find a nice renaissance happening in our older age, with younger people eager to learn what and how we did.

Sure glad I grew up a "free range" kid.
