All text now lumped together after forum upgrade

See http://forums.parallax.com/showthread.php?135270-Formatting-test-pls.-ignore&p=1044907&viewfull=1#post1044907All I write now ends up in a single paragraph. This is supposed to be a second paragraph, with a blank line above. This is supposed to be the third line. And below my name, alone on a separate line. That didn't work in the post linked to above, so let's see about this one. Is this a side effect of the announced forum upgrade? Also, quoting and code sections were all messed up when I tried those.-Tor

Microchip's forum software has similar problems to that with posts created with the current version of Firefox.

I've created this separate para to see if this has the same problem.

    It works OK for me!

I use Chromium (a variant of Chrome). I'm currently logged in at two other forums in other tabs in this browser, and the all-lumped-together problem only happens here on this forum, so it's not something suddenly afflicting my browser. The only thing that changed since last time I posted here was the announced forum upgrade. But I can see you and others posting fine. It must be something afflicting only certain browsers - it's already known that the Parallax forum does some strange things, this box we write in isn't a proper standard HTML form, for example. Because the very nice Firefox "it's all text" extension (which lets you write the form content in your preferred external editor) doesn't work here.So with this latest change it doesn't work correctly with Chromium at all.-Tor

I've noticed subtle oddities since the upgrade:
    - some of the "smilies" do not insert themselves into messages when clicked on
    - odd behavior (I know that's murky) in sentence/paragraph forming when in WYSIWYG editor writing a private message or generating a response to a Forum thread.

I just tried Chrome with a post to the Test forum, and it seemed to work OK.

There's definitely a new problem with the vertical formatting, and it needs to be fixed ASAP. Some blank lines are recognized; others are not. It really screws up the ability to make a nice presentation.

Looking at the page source for a post I made before the change, it's apparent that vBulletin is not inserting enough <br /> tags into the HTML the way it used to. (Either that or the CSS for the <div> tags no longer includes extra vertical space.) In any event, it seems to be more a problem with rendering the posted content in HTML from the bbCode after the fact than with the edit function.

Is there any way to roll back that part of the "upgrade" until it can be fixed?

As far as the original post's problem... Tor, are you using any type of middle software for posting? The new editor might behave differently in how it strips and effects code/script being copied and pasted. I will have to play with this more to see if there is something I can do to help you, but there doesn't seem to be any issue

    with

    any type
    of

    spacing.

As for the other problems that seem to have developed on this thread.
I haven't seen any issue with smilies on IE and Firefox, I'll check the rest shortly for emoticons specifically.
And about non-breaking spaces not formatting correctly or div style changes; I haven't seen this issue either?

Does anyone have screen pics of these pages that are all mashed up together? It may be I'm used to seeing the site differently than others are wishing/wanting to experience it, so seeing or hearing very specific examples helps me move forward with these 'errors'; otherwise my browsers are all operating within acceptable parameters.

Sorry, can't roll back certain features and keep others; it's all or nothing, and we really enjoy the added security on the back end.

    Bump,

The spacing problem seems to occur between images and before and after <div> sections. Attached is Firefox's rendering of the cited post, which was made before the upgrade. Before the upgrade, the spaces were rendered correctly. My suspicion is that the CSS for <img> and <div> sections does not include any top and bottom margins, whereas before, they did. Within divisions, as in your post above, there is not a problem.

Thanks for looking into this. It's important for those of us who try to create nice-looking presentations in the forum.

Oh look at that, margins are all at 0; I'll see what I can do to make that settle correctly.

No, I just edit directly in Chromium (its 'About' says it's version 13.0.782.107, but there's a 14.0.something version available which I may try later). Nothing in between, except possibly a proxy.. hm, yes, Privoxy is in between.I don't see any problems with posts written by others, the problem is in the text I'm entering into the browser when I write posts like this. It's all messed up when I hit 'Preview' or 'Submit'.-Tor---p.s. And if I hit 'Preview' the text in the edit field will also be lumped together afterwards.

I've found that if I insert a html 'br' I'll get a blank line. It'll get washed away if I edit the post though, and will have to be inserted again. I can't figure out how to write html tags literally in the posting so that it's shown though. 'br' with < and > around it (I'm trying writing the html variants for those there)

and another one to get a blank line as above (that blank line had one of those 'br' tags inserted).

I'm not sure what goes on here after the forum upgrade. The forum certainly isn't using standard HTML form fields for sure. Something that changed must be incompatible with my version of Chromium.

Bah that took forever to track down, I think what is now in place should help with layouts:

It's certainly better than it was. Would it be possible to make the margins a full line's worth of space? The reason I ask is that it doesn't matter how many blank lines you insert before a new <div>; all you get is the <div>'s vertical margin. That's no longer true. Extra blank lines do get inserted around <div>'s.

    Thanks, Bump!

Still problems for me. In the meantime I've upgraded Chromium to v14.0, didn't help. I have to do manual <br> codes after each line to get a line feed. And for blank lines.

One thing I've noticed is that the preview page renders differently from a submitted post page, regarding vertical formatting and the font size used for code blocks. But I honestly don't remember if this was an issue before the upgrade or not.
