Those look both nicely conceived and nicely made. I'm not so sure about their patent-worthiness, though.

I also like the machining part and rigidity, or lack of slop in the total system.

I can confirm that those little parts are expensive to manufacture. They're worth every penny ServoCity is charging for them.

'My thoughts, too, when I first saw them:
    1. Right-angle threaded holes in the hub plate, requiring an extra setup or a really fancy CNC.
    2. Servos splines, which have to be broached.*
    3. A lot of material to remove from the shaft hub.
    4. Bearing to press in.

*Actually, they can't be broached, since they don't go all the way through, but terminate at a small-diameter hole for the screw that holds it on the shaft. I can't imagine how that part was even made.

Since the part is made on a lathe then it's not that hard.

Wow, very cool! I had no idea that could be done. Thanks for posting!

There is also a form of hobbing that could do it also. Since it's aluminum it wouldn't be that hard to displace such a small thing like the spline shape.

I modified a common axle set just for the fun of it.

Lots of neat robots could be built out of those. Probably a robot arm would be the most cost and space effective usage.
