Did I build my motor controller properly?

I've been trying to build a motor controller, and here's a pic of my first attempt:

Nothing popped or melted yet. I've been running it for about 5 minutes, shutting it on & off several times.

I would upload the original schematics I'm following, but photobucket just errors whenever I try uploading the scan.


Does it look like the circuit is assembled properly?

    It looks like it should be okay. The 470 Ω resistor should protect the Stamp from damage as long as the Vdd isn't too high. Hopefully the transistor can handle the current required by the motor. If it works as you expect it to and there is no smoke or sparks and nothing gets hot, it should be okay. :)

    You need a diode directly across the motor.

    True, I meant to say that but forgot. Like in the last diagram in that N&V column, but with the motor where the relay is.
