Here is a little idea I thought I'd share

Here is a little idea I though I'd share. You can sometimes mount things like LCDs from the rear of your box (if nothing else is in the way) by using long standoffs . This can make for a cleaner appearance. In this case I also taped a piece of clear plastic from some discarded packaging on the inside to protect the front of the display.

That is a great idea. Another method is to mount the spacers to the lid and cut the hole in the bottom of the case. Not only are there no screws on the face of the display, but the components are easier to get at.

These Lexan bezels and mounting kits are a little pricey but really look nice. I just ordered some 2x16 size kits.

Also, you can buy small sheets of polycarbonate from Home Depot or Lowe's

Yeah, no screw holes would be better, but that particular box has four big dimples molded into the bottom corners, so I decided the screws were the lesser of two evils. Also the box tapers down in size toward the bottom which gives it a bit of tilt back when laying on it's side. The piece of clear plastic I used was cut from the package of a flash drive I bought at Walmart, It's pretty tough stuff.

Yeah - most project boxes have a taper and dimples where the molded posts intersect the bottom. The boxes I used in my previous post are from Hammond Industries Mfg. and have a textured surface. I put little rubber feet on the front corners to tilt the display up...

The boxes from Radio Shack are pretty low quality IMHO...

Great idea. It's also possible to use angle iron and do mountings 90-degrees from the side. In this project, lots of angle iron was used to make flexible-position mounts for LCDs by connecting several 90-degree angle irons together.
