Trip to Nashville

I just returned yesterday from a long weekend in Nashville TN. It's about an 8 hour drive from where I live. We arrived on Thursday afternoon and enjoyed a free outdoor "Concert on the Green" featuring Edwin McCain. We like Edwin and were glad to see that he happened to be playing there.

Now I will say that I am not a real country music fan or at least not the older country music as I tend to like rock and roll but I do enjoy music in general and watching people perform. I was really impressed with this city and the amount of talented musicians playing every day. You can go from bar to bar most anytime of the afternoon and evening along 2nd Avenue and Broadway and hear anything from the old style honky tonk to rock and roll. Originals and covers. There is some real talent there.

We also took a tour of the Country Music Hall of Fame Museum and drove around and checked out the Grand Old Opry Hotel. Didn't go into the Grand Old Opry but saved that for another future trip. It was really sad to see all the construction going on as a result of the flood from May of 2010 at the shopping mall near the Opry. They are now just getting underway with rebuilding and remodeling.

All in all the locals there were very friendly and the town was fairly easy to get around in. We had a blast at the Cadillac Ranch. I used to think Vegas was always my favorite destination as I would go there several times a year for many years but I actually think I enjoyed Nashville a whole lot more. Similar to the way I used to enjoy Vegas years ago.

I will definitely be returning.... :)
