Propeller Hackable? I could think of some pretty cool uses for Wifi connectivity via existing SD.

    Jeff,

I ran across the documentation for my Eye-Fi card last night and started thinking along similar lines. Mine might be a (significantly) older version, I don't remember having the USB/SD adapter they show. I'll need to dig around for it and see.

Certainly could do some data logging to a PC. I'm not sure if it can talk from the PC back to the Eye-Fi except maybe for file deletion.

If I can find all the parts to mine, I'll be happy to send them down to Orrville for a loan. You will probably get around to hacking with it MUCH sooner (and more capably) than I will!!

I have one .. I doubt it can do more then Photos as the firmware is really locked up .

BUT a SDIO WiFI form amazon may work as it is just a SDIO device not a SD storage card that can leak data to a WiFi chip .

Nifty concept but looks like it only sends files one way. Be nice if it cold be hacked though. A 4G card and wifi.

I am playing with some of these 4G X2 and 8G Pro cards at present. I have Data Loggers that could benefit from having a transparent interface directly to the files on the card. I have already tricked the software into sending some files other than photos or videos but I will probably chase the Eye-Fi guys to see if there is a firmware update allowing access to any file. I will post as soon as I make some progress.

    Peter,
I asked the guys at Eye-fi that very question a few years ago when there product first entered the market. They had no interest at the time. I hope it is a different story now.

The advantage of the Eye-Fi card is that it is a normal SD memory card and the WiFi is transparent to the target. So we're not trying to use the card for a general-purpose WiFi connection as there are much better ways of doing that plus it would load up the Prop's resources. However it's a great way to retrofit SD card products to make them accessible over WiFi (assuming we can).

    Thanks for the links though.

Peter I was wondering on the load for the prop . If it was me at parallax I would be useng one of those SDIO chips to make my WiFI adapter work and selll a WIFI spinnnernet .

have its on board Prop handle the heavy lifting ..

now its just a SD slot some GPIOs and a most of al software .

I recon that if a old Win CE device can boot that card then I am shure iur prop can ..
