usb driver problem and Windows 7 64 bit

I am not able to get communication via usb to serial port on my boe. My pc is Windows 7 64 bit. could it be possible that the driver from parrallax for usb is not compatible with Win 7 64 bit?

    You can always download the most recent drivers from FTDI here.

    I have no problem running the BS2 boards with the Parallax USB to Serial converter with Windows 7 64 bit. Are you using the Parallax USB product?

    Working okay on my Windows 7 box. (Ultimate 64 bit)

    Did you install the driver before connecting the USB to Serial adapter? You might have to disconnect the adapter and reboot the computer. Then reconnect the adapter.

    I retried on an xp 32 bit and same problem - in fact, on both pc's communication worked for a brief moment at first then the connection was lost somehow. Now I remmeberr reading that this might be an issue with serial communication on some computers so now I will attempt to re-read and find the solution.

    yes, I am using parallax serial / usb card and cable

    Which USB to Serial adapter are you using. They don't all work on the BS2 boards.

    I see we posted at the same time. Are you using the retractable USB cable? They have been known to cause communication problems.

    Try another USB cable for grins. :)

    when I first plug in and turn on boe; connectivity works when I run identify I can see the correct info; but if I run identify or attempt a program connection is lost and no device is found

    Are you using a 9 volt battery or wall-wart power supply? Try changing the power source.

    Are you using the retractable USB cable?

    I am using the supplied battery pack that came with the boe-bot - holds 4 AA batteries.

    @daveduggan, verify that your batteries are charged/Good. Swap your USB cable with a known good USB cable.

    Try this I had the same problem with this a new Window 7 laptop computer

    First go to device and printer and click on then find the one that tell which comp port that you are using the serial / usb adapter then click hardware then click the one that says Properites then click the one that says Change settings then click the one that says Drivers then click the one that say UpDate Driver..... Search automatically for updated driver software

    After I did this it work now

    You have to install your motherboard driver to get the USB working again. To verify if your driver is not digitally signed or not installed, you can check the device manager under system properties.

    thank you Publison; you were on the right track.

    I just got off the phone with parallax tech support and my aa batteries were the problem.

    I put a 9 volt bat in and walla! all is good
