Touch Pad Fun

Disclaimer: "off brand chip". Don't hate me!

I was inspired by the Prop Quick Start board touchpad/LED demo, but I deen't have one, Lucy... note to self: get quickstart board ASAP.

So look at the application, not the dusty uC I had laying around: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZUMcS-_SKfE

This uses capacitive sensing as opposed to bridging resistance pads as on the demo board. It's pretty fun to play around with. Requires calibration. I think Parallax could sell an XY touch pad or linear touch strip accessory along these lines which could interface to a Stamp. We gotta compete with the iPad, iPhone, iPod, iPed, iPud, etc.

Yeah, all the M2 PICAXEs have those touch inputs now. I gather it's a standard input feature of the latest PICs?

The Prop QuickStart has a metallic band on the back you can use for smooth sliding. Make the strip longer, hook it up to some synthesizer guts, and you could make the same type of pitch ribbon heard in this well-known TV show theme:

Don't hate me either, but my Kansla product uses a Cypress PSoC to accomplish what you are wishing Parallax had. My prototype is a 5 button setup with an output for use with any uC that can understand 9600 baud serial. It is currently mounted on a modified side panel on my stingray awaiting Prop code for it to be a user interface example. I have been holding off publicizing it because I haven't had time to wrap it up and the firmware isn't complete. It is on the top of my to-do list finally so it might be on the forums within a few weeks. The modified Stingray panel may be of interest to others as well, so I have 2 reasons to get it done sooner.
