See Objects Through Transparent Plastic?

Which Parallax sensors can "see" or "detect" objects through transparent plastic?

The goal is to detect the presence of an object on the other side of a sheet of transparent plastic. Motion detect the object will also work. But it must be through the plastic.

The PIR infrared sensor can be detected through plastic, clear plastic. I've tested here and it reduces the distance some.

That's one that never gets mentioned in the forum for some reason. I wonder how many people have them and what they're being used for.

I'm guessing the TSL230 sensor could be used to "see" albeit crudely, especially if you provide it with restricted fields of view and/or restricted fields of illumination. You might even use IR emitters for illumination since the TSL230 can "see" into the near IR.

I'd say Capacitive Switch concept is one of them in case your object comes close enough to "plates"

This concept has found its applications in non-contact keys or buttons through the glass front plate window etc
